Cena’s absence now looks like it will stretch further after landing a role in another movie.

Variety is reporting that the 15-time world champion has been cast in Kay Cannon’s directorial debut, The Pact.

The film, which will also star Ike Barinholtz and Leslie Mann, is about three parents trying to put a stop to their daughters’ plans after discovering they have made a pact to lose their virginities on prom night.

Cena had been rumoured to be returning for the Royal Rumble pay-per-view in January.

Goldberg and Brock Lesnar, two of WWE’s blockbuster names, have already announced their intention to compete at the event.
