For a while, fans haven't seen John Cena step in the WWE ring. But after two months, Cena made his dramatic comeback in SmackDown Live last Tuesday and make an announcement that he will challenge the winner of the Triple Threat Match that night between AJ Style, Baron Corbin and Dolph Ziggler for the WWE Championship in Royal Rumble.
And a rematch is now set, as Style won that evening when he pinned down Ziggler for the count of three to retain the WWE Championship belt and face Cena at the Royal Rumble in January 2017. Both wrestler already fought in the Money in the Bank last June and Summerslam in August before Cena takes a hiatus filming the second season of the American Grit.
Aside from challenging Style for the championship, Cena also clarified rumors that have been swirling around the news for the past months. According to Rolling Stone, John Cena cleared earlier reports that he is already done and will just walk away from the WWE universe to pursue his career in Hollywood and will never come back.
Now, he made a big statement about his future setting the record straight saying that he is not done with his career as a wrestler and will not leave the WWE in the near future. Though he called this year as not a 'super year for Super Cena', he promised to be back next year and it will first happen at the Royal Rumble.
On a separate report by FOXSports, Cena further stated that now he is back it will also be the end of the 'New Era BS' because he declaring that the 'My Time Is Now Era' is coming. And now that the Cena-Style matchup is already set for the Royal Rumble next year, fans are expecting nothing less from the two protagonists after their two classic duels this year.
With only a month before the rematch happens, John Cena vs AJ Style for the WWE Championship belt will surely fire up WWE fans for the first main event of 2017. Royal Rumble is set to take place on January 29, 2017, at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas where WWE production is expecting to sell out the 60,000 capacity seat of the arena.
