From the NWA to Hell In A Cell, Ross has called some of the greatest matches in the history of pro wrestling - but a trilogy sticks out in the mind of Good Ol' JR
WRESTLING legend Jim Ross will be commentating on our screens this evening, when World Of Sport returns to ITV, but what does he think are the most significant matches he has called in his illustrious career?
Speaking exclusively to The Sun, Good ol’ JR said it was a very well remembered trilogy of phenomenal matches between the two biggest stars of the Attitude Era.
Jim Ross and his World of Sport co-commentator, Alex ShaneRoss said: “I’ve been so blessed to call great matches in the ‘70s and ‘80s, but the matches that were the most significant were the three main events that Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock had at WrestleMania – 15, 17 and 19.
“Although those three matches were excellent, what they meant to the business and what they meant to the talents were really special.
Stone Cold went on to defeat the Rock at WrestleMania 15, with a huge stunner Steve Austin (right) smacks The Rock (left) with a chair during their match at WrestleMania XV Stone Cold and The Rock had a three incredible ‘Mania matches“Ric Flair vs Ricky Steamboat from 1989 was a classic, Mick Foley and Triple H had some great matches, Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker had some great matches, there’s so many and I’ve been blessed to come around at the right time to call those matches. Kurt Angle matches were phenomenal, Brock Lesnar, especially in his younger days when he was wrestling full time was a sight to behold.
"There were a lot of great ones, but If I had to pick out a series or a rivalry I’d pick out The Rock and Austin because of what they meant to WWE at the time, and the business in general and where their lives have taken them since. They established that great fanbase in WWE, and certainly in Rock’s case, he’s been able to parlay that into an amazing career.
Stone Cold Steve Austin vs The Rock had three top WrestleMania bouts"When I signed him I had no idea he was going to be the biggest movie star in the world, but I did think he had the chance to be a very special pro wrestler, and he was that and more."
