The tag team duo of Chad Gable and Jason Jordan, better known in the WWE as American Alpha won The Smackdown Tag Team Championships belts Tuesday December 27th, 2016 at the Allstate Arena in Chicago, Illinois.

Gable and Jordan made be known as American Alpha when they are in the squared circle, but before that they were mainstays in this end of the wrestling world. Jason Jordan was born Nathan Everhart in Tinley Park, Illinois just 44 miles south of the Allstate Arena. He was a three sport athlete in high school and passed up a Professional Baseball deal to wrestle at the University Of Indiana where he was a three time national qualifier and was ranked as high as 2nd in the nation.

Chad Gable went by Chas Betts when he competed on a wrestling mat. Chas won a Minnesota state championship in high school. After high school he chose to focus on greco attending the USOEC program at Northern Michigan University. Betts went on to earn a spot on the US Olympic team in 2012 beating Jordan Holm in the OTT finals 2 matches to 0. Betts went on to qualify rh weight for the US and compete in London.

American Alpha made history when the won the Smackdown Tag belts becoming the first such team to hold NXT Tag Team Titles and belts on the WWE main roster. "NXT is lot like the WWE's 'farm system', when guys are first coming through the ranks they have to prove themselves in NXT first" a masked WWE insider told us of the promotions inner workings.
