Triple H: Donald Trump couldn't tell if WWE skit was fake - New York Daily News

The next leader of the free world apparently couldn't tell if a pro wrestling skit was fake.

In a recently resurfaced interview, WWE star Triple H said Donald Trump once called around in a panic because he wasn't sure whether one of the wrestling company’s over-the-top storylines was true.

Back in the simpler times of 2007, WWE featured a storyline in an episode of “Raw” in which Vince McMahon — the company’s CEO — suffered a series of failures as his roster of wrestlers mocked him.

The episode ended with McMahon hobbling into a backstage limousine — which burst into flames as soon as he sat down.

The WWE — known for its soap opera subplots as much as its athletic brawls — played the angle for real as long as it could, and even put out a press release claiming “initial reports indicate that Mr. McMahon is presumed dead.” (He’s still alive and still running WWE today.)

The plot fooled many fans — including, apparently, the 45th President of the United States.

In a 2008 “Opie and Anthony” interview, Triple H mentioned Trump as one of the many people duped by the dubious demise.

“He’d probably be mad at me for saying it, but, like — Trump called and was like, ‘Did something happen to Vince?’” the wrestler said.

A host asked, in disbelief, if Trump really couldn’t figure that out.

“That’s the magic of television,” Triple H said.

Cafe.com head of video Matt Binder resurfaced the clip this week on his Twitter account.

Trump, ironically, had his own ridiculous WWE storyline just a few months before McMahon's fake death.

Trump and McMahon waged an on-air (and scripted) feud with each other, which climaxed with them choosing wrestlers to fight on their behalf in a so-called “Battle of the Billionaires.”

Trump’s pick, Bobby Lashley, won the rumble at Wrestlemania 23. So, as per their deal, the future President shaved McMahon’s head on live TV.

In fact, Trump is even in the WWE Hall of Fame — a first for a President of the United States, or of any other country.

Perhaps not entirely unrelated, Trump last week tapped McMahon’s wife — Linda McMahon, a WWE cofounder — as the next head of the U.S. Small Business Administration. She has an estimated $1.16 billion net worth.
