Big Cass vs. Rusev: Winner and Reaction for WWE Roadblock 2016 - Bleacher Report

Big Cass vs. Rusev: Winner and Reaction for WWE Roadblock 2016 - Bleacher Report

Rusev and Lana once again got the last laugh Sunday at Roadblock: End of the Line, as the Bulgarian Brute won via count-out over Big Cass on the Kickoff Show.

After stunning Big Cass outside the ring, Rusev attacked Enzo Amore, who had been distracted by Lana. WWE shared a replay of Rusev's clothesline on Enzo:

Big Cass tended to his injured tag partner, but in doing so he failed to re-enter the ring inside the referee's 10-count, giving Rusev the victory.

The issues between Cass and Rusev date back several weeks, as the 7-footer jokingly locked Enzo out of the locker room while he was naked. That led to Enzo walking past Lana in his birthday suit, which infuriated the Super Athlete.

In subsequent weeks, the Ravishing Russian feigned interest in Enzo, and she even invited him to her hotel room under the guise of a rendezvous behind Rusev's back.

The situation turned out to be a setup, as Rusev no-showed a match against Big Cass on Raw and instead jumped Enzo in the hotel room.

After tricking the Smack-Talker Skywalker, Rusev further humiliated and taunted him on Twitter:

He and Lana continued to rub it in on Raw as well by cutting a promo and laughing at Enzo's misfortunes, per WWE's official Twitter account:

The situation was no laughing matter from Big Cass' perspective, so he decided to defend his friend's honor by challenging Rusev to a match at Roadblock.

Although Rusev was able to get away with pushing around Enzo while Cass wasn't present, it was clear he would have a far more difficult challenge on his hands at the pay-per-view.

While Cass doesn't have much experience as a singles competitor on WWE's main roster, he has shown flashes of brilliance and the potential to be a world championship-contending Superstar in the future.

That was on full display a couple of weeks after SummerSlam when he took part in a Fatal 4-Way match to crown a new Universal champion. He proved he could perform on a level similar to that of Kevin Owens, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns.

Sunday marked his first pay-per-view singles opportunity, though, and it came against a two-time United States champion who is used to the bright lights, as Rusev had faced John Cena at WrestleMania 31.

The match presented a great opportunity for both Superstars since neither was doing much of note until their feud started.

Although no title is involved, the angle surrounding Cass, Rusev, Enzo and Lana has arguably been the most compelling one on WWE programming as of late due to the Attitude Era elements it has incorporated.

Fans have been given a reason to care about all four Superstars, and it led to a match that the WWE Universe was invested in.

Rusev scored the victory Sunday to get further revenge for his wife, but Big Cass clearly has unfinished business with the Bulgarian Brute that he will attempt to settle in the coming weeks.
