Everyone has a dream match that they would like to see happen between wrestlers of different generations or times. So many hope that one day, it is still possible to see The Undertaker take on Sting. Many would have loved seeing Bret “Hit Man” Hart vs. Daniel Bryan. A match between Shawn Michaels and current WWE Champion is something that so many fans hope for, but could it ever possibly take place?
Shawn Michaels has been retired now for a number of years, but he still does work for the company every now and again. Recently, there has been talk that he may show up at the 2017 Royal Rumble since it takes place in San Antonio, but no one has actually confirmed anything as of yet.
First of all, many have wondered and started talking about Michaels showing up at the Royal Rumble which will take place in his hometown. It’s just about a month away and even Jim Ross believes that the “Heartbreak Kid” should show and be there, but will he?
[Image by WWE]Shawn Michaels recently spoke with The Fan about a number of topics including all the buzz going around a possible Royal Rumble appearance. That was when HBK decided to set the record straight and let everyone know what’s currently going on.
“No one has even contacted me about that show. I don’t know if anyone cares that I’m from there. I think the WWE has happily moved on from me.”
So, it doesn’t look as if Michaels is going to be doing anything at the Royal Rumble at all next month in San Antonio. Sure, no one was really expecting him to wrestle or anything, but fans were hopeful that he would make the short drive and have an appearance or something.
With that being said, many have wondered if HBK could ever step foot in the ring again for at least one more match. Fans have started whispering and hoping that he would take on AJ Styles who is the current WWE Champion on SmackDown LIVE, but of course, nothing is set.
Michaels knows that his name keeps coming up for a match with Styles, and he has finally decided to comment on it.
“I met AJ Styles once, he’s a phenomenal young man. He’s very nice, very respectable young man…and is unbelievably talented. I’m honored that my name pops up darn near every week in people’s wish for guys to wrestle. That’s a compliment to me, and I’m thankful of that. But…I’m very comfortable with my life and being retired.”
Unfortunately, Shawn Michaels vs. AJ Styles may never be anything more than a dream match, but the fans aren’t the only ones that want to see it happen.
[Image by WWE]AJ Styles was recently a guest on Heated Conversations with Booker T where he spoke on arriving in the company and belonging there. Of course, the conversation led to him becoming WWE Champion in such a short period of time and then, the talk went to Shawn Michaels.
Styles obviously would like for that one to happen as much as the fans do, but he knows that is not his call. Still, he’s ready if the time ever comes for that dream match to take place.
“It’s not up to me to have those dream matches, it is up to the WWE Universe to have those dream matches. Whatever they want…I want to deliver. Whether or not Shawn wants to do something like that, that’s up to him. I totally respect who he is and what he has done for this business, so that is totally in his court.”
As many may know, anyone involved with wrestling really isn’t going to give away a great match or storyline until it is time to make the official announcement. So, in regard to the 2017 Royal Rumble and a possible match with AJ Styles in the future…Shawn Michaels simply isn’t saying much. He states that he is happily retired and he probably is, but if the right opportunity came around and it was good for everyone involved, it’s possible that HBK could get back in the ring.
