When Bill Goldberg returned to WWE back in October, everyone quickly learned that this was a one-time deal for one match against Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series. Then, the 86-second match happened with Goldberg coming out on top and it was revealed that he would be sticking around a bit longer. Now, WWE wants to know what the fans think and they have offered up some very interesting choices for who else should be “next” on Goldberg’s list.
The thought has been that Goldberg is going to end up continuing his feud with Lesnar through Royal Rumble and into WrestleMania 33. Nothing is confirmed and nothing is known at all, but WWE now wants to know who Goldberg should take on next.
On the official website of WWE, a poll is being run asking fans which other superstar(s) they would like to see Goldberg step in the ring against.
[Image by WWE]Needless to say, but it’s a rather interesting list of choices from WWE and here is who they have for the fans to pick from:
As of this writing on Wednesday evening, The Undertaker was clearly leading the poll with 40 percent. Roman Reigns was in second with 20 percent while John Cena had 19. Bray Wyatt and Rusev each had 5 percent and 10 percent of the fans had “Other” names in mind.
Obviously, Goldberg has never faced off with Reigns, Rusev, or Wyatt as all of them made their debuts long after his last match at WrestleMania XX. Other than both being in the 2004 Royal Rumble together, he hasn’t faced off with Cena either.
[Image by WWE]Oh, and Goldberg has never been involved in any match of any kind with The Undertaker either. That could make for a very interesting match-up between two of the most dominant characters of all time, according to Fox Sports.
There really aren’t a lot of superstars still in WWE who were around during Goldberg’s first run with the company. Here are just some of the talents still on the main roster who could have a rematch with Goldberg at some point during this second run:
- Chris Jericho
- Kane
- Randy Orton
- Triple H (if he wrestles again)
- Mark Henry
He’s been involved in singles matches, tag team matches, six-man tag matches, handicap matches, battle royals, and even the Elimination Chamber. Many of those he won during his first few years in WWE and he is now 1-0 in his return.
The thing is, would Vince McMahon and Triple H be willing to have such a worthy investment put over a young up-and-coming talent? Bray Wyatt and Rusev have both established themselves in the company and are easily over on their own, but a victory over a legend like Goldberg would instantly elevate them into serious main event status.
[Image by WWE]There isn’t likely to be much happening in the month of December with Goldberg and he isn’t even confirmed to appear on WWE television before the end of the year. He’ll likely show up sometime in January since the official website of WWE did confirm his entry into the Royal Rumble and there will need to be some build-up.
It is pretty much a given that the feud between Goldberg and Brock Lesnar is going to continue to some extent, but no one knows for how long. The company is wanting to know what the fans want and it could be very interesting to see if a feud between the former WCW World Heavyweight Champion and The Undertaker is on the horizon.
Goldberg is sticking around for the Royal Rumble after quickly squashing an “injured” Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series. Maybe the feud will continue and things will stretch on into WrestleMania 33 for a third match in the series. Then again, WWE wouldn’t put this poll out there for no reason at all and maybe they are gauging if Goldberg taking on John Cena, Bray Wyatt, Roman Reigns, or The Undertaker is really a big-time money match.
